The General Medical Council (GMC) are investigating allegations that breast surgeon, Ian Paterson, unlawfully and maliciously wounded patients in 21 counts dating back to 1997. Paterson, 58, of Castle Mill Lane, Ashley, Altrincham, was suspended by the GMC in 2012 and appeared at Birmingham magistrates’ Court where he did not enter a plea. A Stockport hospital faces a multi-million pound payout following the deaths and injuries of a number of patients treated by a negligent nurse. Stepping Hill hospital is under the pressure of 21 claims made by the victims of Victorino Chua, a nurse accused of poisoning patients. It was heard that three of the cases were fatal and many of the other victims now live with life-changing injuries. A man has been found guilty of attempted murder after he attacked two men, leaving one brain-damaged and blind. 27-year-old Clive Malone from Great Yarmouth had attempted to steal the laptop of Russell Lambert (55) while he was at a birthday party. A total of £589,000 has been paid out in compensation and legal fees by West Midlands Police in 2013/14. Among the 26 personal injury claims made against the force, officers injured during personal safety training exercises made up three of the successful claims. After many complaints about dogs “damaging his garden fence”, 79-year-old Clifford Clarke was mauled to death, by what appeared to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, in the garden of his own home.
