A passenger that suffered serious injuries after a bag fell onto them from an overhead compartment is suing air travel giants British Airways. 45-year-old Wayne Herbert from north London had been travelling on the US-bound plane when a fellow passenger’s travel bag fell onto his head as the plane waited to take off. He claims he suffered serious whiplash injuries as a result of the incident. A whiplash scam was recently uncovered after a lorry’s on-board video footage was released, showing that the car swerved out in front of the lorry intentionally. The driver of the car filled out four whiplash claims for the individual passengers, totalling £75,000, following the supposed ‘accident’. The lorry’s on-board footage, however, clearly shows the Ford Galaxy swerving across three lanes of traffic on the M25 to be hit by the HGV. The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has published research criticising the number of whiplash claims in the UK. Eight in ten personal injury claims following road traffic accidents are now for alleged whiplash, it says. The ABI has submitted its findings to the Transport Select Committee inquiry into whiplash.
