Pages On: NHS Claims
The NHS is an excellent organisation that saves so many lives. Having such a resource allows the people of the UK to not constantly fret about choosing between their finances and their health. However, that does mean the NHS is under routine strain from the vast quantities of patients, as well as mismanagement from higher up. Patients can often wait weeks before seeing a GP, and months, sometimes even years, for referrals. In the event of serious illness, this can be too late to combat. There are also the chances of surgical mistakes, misdiagnosis, birth injury and a myriad of other types of medical negligence. If the NHS has failed in its duty of care to you, and you have suffered as a result, you may be entitled to claim compensation.

As further proof that negligent medical care can affect anyone, a 63-year-old “Coronation Street” star from Manchester has had to learn to walk again after a botched hip operation. After a consultant described the surgery – which left her in dismay for months – as rarely successful for women her age, Beverley Callard is suing the hospital which carried out the procedure. Callard, who plays Liz McDonald on the show, suddenly left the program after taking a two-week sabbatical to have routine keyhole surgery on her damaged hip, and some…

This has been described as the “biggest recall in NHS history” and many of those recalled have threatened legal action as a result. The footage, which was filmed in secret, has been requested to be viewed…

The MDU said that this scale of compensation payouts could not continue for much longer. The MDU argued that this amount of compensation could have funded over eight million MRI scans,…

NHS England’s medical director, Sir Bruce Keogh, has warned all surgeons that if they fail to publish their mortality rates, they could face sanctions. Sir Bruce said that this step had to be taken to improve the safety of patients within the NHS, with penalties being enforced if this regulation is not followed. On Wednesday performance data for around 5,000 surgeons in England is to be released online. Despite this new regulation, many surgeons have contested this change, arguing that mortality rates can often be misleading. The point has also…

John Lu worked at Nottingham’s Trent Cardiac Centre, where he infected 11 patients and killed 5. The investigation into Mr Lu’s standard of practice was sparked as a result of numerous patients becoming infected with an antibiotic-resistant strain of bacteria, where he was found to be the common source. The investigation was carried out by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust in…

While solicitors investigate claims against Mid Staffordshire hospitals, they also plan to probe 79 negligence claims against two Lancashire hospitals. The claims stand against two of the East Lancashire NHS Trust’s hospitals: the Royal Blackburn and Burnley General Hospitals. The trust was put under ‘special measures’ last month following the Keogh Inquiry. Sir Bruce Keogh’s investigation was sparked as a result of investigating high death rates in Mid-Staffordshire hospitals, which then led to the discovery of many more offending trusts across England. Let down by poor care standards, the East Lancashire…
