A recent study carried out by psychologists at the University of Bath suggests that where helmets are meant to keep cyclists safer on the roads, it actually results in cyclists being more daring, and even unsafe. According to recently released data, Manchester stands as the city that had the second highest number of accident claims filed against its council in 2014 for pothole-related injuries. The information showed Birmingham to be the number one city in the UK for pothole-related claims, followed by Manchester and then Newcastle. A cyclist from Tunbridge Wells has been awarded a multi-million pound compensation package after an accident whilst cycling left her in a “minimally conscious state”. 62-year-old office administrator Fenella Sinclair had been riding her bicycle home from work when she was involved in a serious collision with a car in July 2011. After Benjamin Haughton, a 16-year-old cyclist, collided with a Land Rover in July, he has since celebrated his birthday with the doctor who helped save his life. Benjamin Haughton had been running an errand for his Mother when the accident occurred, and had to be immediately airlifted to hospital. 38-year-old cyclist Jenni Stewart has thanked a community first responder for his help after she took a terrible fall from her bike, leaving her with a severe back injury. An organised charity cycle in Huddersfield saw a turn out in the hundreds as people from across Yorkshire raised money to support an injured cyclist who was left in a coma following a collision with a car last week. Transport for London (TfL) has recently published findings of the first independent review into construction logistics and cyclist safety. The report was commissioned after figures revealed a worrying number of road traffic collisions involving construction vehicles.
