Former owners of a laser tag arena in Oldbury, DFI Services Limited, pleaded guilty to two offences of neglect at a hearing in Sandwell Magistrates’ Court on 19 January 2015. The hearing followed a serious accident that took place at The Raceway, Park Lane Trading Estate on 13 July 2013 when an 11-year-old boy fell onto a metal grid, lacerating his knee. After Benjamin Haughton, a 16-year-old cyclist, collided with a Land Rover in July, he has since celebrated his birthday with the doctor who helped save his life. Benjamin Haughton had been running an errand for his Mother when the accident occurred, and had to be immediately airlifted to hospital. Dr Simon Lewis, a volunteer with Magpas Helimedix Service, assisted after finding Mr Haughton on top of the vehicle with “life-threatening injuries”. Richard Clutterbuck has been awarded with £81,500 from an insurance settlement after being hit by a car when riding his horse along the roadside. Mr Clutterbuck’s suffered a fractured spine in the accident, yet his horse Linford died instantly. The horse was hit when a car attempted to overtake another car, which had slowed down to pass them.
